Terms
The deal, in plain English.
Torchpass is a trading name of Web Hero Limited, registered in England and Wales. These terms are between you and that company.
Draft. This describes how the product is intended to work and has not yet been through legal review. It is not a binding agreement.
Terms of service
What Torchpass is
A service that stores what you write down about the projects you look after, and releases a document to each of your clients — describing their own project and nobody else's — only after a defined sequence of missed check-ins, confirmations and waiting periods completes.
What it is not
It is not a will, and it does not transfer legal ownership of anything. It is not legal, financial or tax advice. It does not replace probate or any other legal process. Naming someone to confirm gives them no legal authority over your affairs, and receiving a document gives a client no rights over an account they did not already hold — only a description of what their project runs on and what to do about it.
Your responsibilities
- Keeping your account credentials secure. We cannot recover your plan if you lose your own access — that is the direct consequence of us being unable to read it.
- Making sure the people you name have actually agreed, and know they've been named.
- Keeping what you have written, and everybody's contact details, current. Reading a client's pack as they would see it is the fastest way to find what has gone stale.
- Only storing material you are lawfully entitled to store and to pass on.
What we promise
- We will not sell or share what you write, and we will not use it to train anything. It is not end-to-end encrypted and we do not claim it is, which is why the service never asks you for a password belonging to anybody.
- We will not release anything except through the protocol described on this site.
- We will not charge the people you name, or your clients, ever.
- We will give you meaningful notice before any material change, and before anything in your plan lapses.
What we can't promise
No online service is available every second. We can't guarantee that a notification is delivered if an inbox is full, that the person you named will answer, or that a supplier will honour a transfer request. Every pack is designed to be printed and to stay just as useful on paper, precisely so that our availability is not the single thing your clients depend on.
Payment
Plans are paid annually or for a multi-year term, in advance, via Stripe. Prices are fixed for the term you buy. If a payment fails we will contact you repeatedly before anything changes, and your plan enters a long grace period rather than being deleted.
Cancelling
You can cancel at any time and print or export everything first. What stops is the part that watches for your silence and runs the protocol, which is the part that matters — so this is not a state to leave yourself in.
If the service ends
If we ever have to shut Torchpass down, we will give as much notice as we can, and the offline recovery path will continue to work without us. That is the whole reason it exists.
Liability
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Beyond that, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the preceding twelve months. Given what this service is for, we would rather set that expectation clearly than bury it.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
